Mini wont start - backfiring

Post by ZeroT »

I have finally had the time to install my MJ and got it all fitted this afternoon to my mini, MG 1275 standard angine.

First I fitted the crank sensor and started the car on the coil and dizzy and the laptop read back the rpm.

I then removed the dizzy and coil and fitted the rest of the EDIS4 setup.

The MJ has the default map on it.

Turned the key and after a few turns, bang! a loud back fire from the exhaust.

Tried a few more times and I get a mixture of bangs from the exhaust and backfires back thru the carb too but no chance of the engine starting.

Suggestions please!

Sounds like the timing is miles out.

where did you fit the toothed wheel / sensor.

Remember the gap should pass the sensor 90 degrees before Top Dead Centre.

Also, ensure you have the coil pack firing order correct.

I have connected coil pack number 1 to spark number 1, far right of mini engine.

And then the coil pack numbers 2, 3, 4 to sparks 2 3 4 numbering from the right.

Don't worry, a couple of weeks ago I was in a rush connecting wires and experienced the same exact thing. :)
