Well, another try. Bought another EDIS unit and installed it this morning. Still no spark. Converting to distributor makes it run. Tried both polarities of the crank sensor, and also swapped the coils: nothing. When I tried to check SAW and PIP the readings I got made no sense steady voltage on both...

Hi, Got a chance to hook the lap top to it today. No tach signal shows, but the map sensor signal is there and it does show the advance for cranking speed. I tried reversing crank sensor polarity in case I have it wrong. I also have tried starting the car with the MJLJ unplugged and nothing. So I do...

Stopped working

Hi, My existing system has quit. It started as no start which I seemed to fix sometimes by moving the wiring. Other times I had to convert the ignition back to distributor to get to my destination. This weekend I pulled the MJLJ harness out and rebuilt it. When I re-installed it there was no start. ...

Hi all, I've been looking this thread over and noticed; "and the issue stays with the coil pack post " This tells me that it is always the posts that are firing in a particular direction that test weak. The reverse firing plugs will test differently than the forward firing ones. Good luck,...

Blueant, Once you write your map to the memory in the MJLJ you can make it stay there by clicking the next icon to the right. If you don't do this your map will only stay in the MJLJ until you shut off the power. HTH Good luck,

mk1escort2.0xe Don't worry about the battery cable or the switch. The current they carry is likely to be fairly stable, and unlikely to cause trouble. The plug wires are the ones that are likely to broadcast EMI, and upset the MJLJ and EDIS. Good luck,

Humpty, On my installation I used the old ignition switched wire to operate a relay, and supplied the contacts from a separate source that is more directly fed by the alternator and battery. Cheers, and hope this helps, Paul

Benno, Your problem is most likely the software for the USB to serial adaptor. These are almost notorious for this type of trouble. Search the archive of this forum to find the results of others battle with this issue. I dodged this trouble because my laptop has a serial port. I hope someone else ca...

Nick, 100% correct! Open is configuration 1, closed is configuration 2. Make sure you get a really good ground at the MJLJ when the switch is closed. I got a poor ground at first and my system wouldn't stay in configuration 2. I eventually brought the ground to the same terminal strip that I used to...

Anthony,
The components Gilesy998 listed will all stop your car if they fail. The MJLJ will only put you into limp home mode, so the listed parts would need to be on board for a quick trackside fix. The Megajolt could be left in the paddockand you could drive to the pits and replace it.

Brent, Total length from MJLJ to switch and from switch to ground is now about 8 feet (2.4 m). The original ground point was a stud on a dash defrost vent. Apparently there were too many bolted connections between that point and the MJLJ to give a consistently good ground path. The only time I have ...

Midas,
My concern with that method of mounting the sensor would not be the strength of the installation, but with its oil tightness. However it is obviously possible to make it seal by using a suitable gasket compound.

Hello all, In case anyone wants to know what was wrong; I found the problem this evening. When I wired the switch I grounded it directly to the mounting screw on the car's body. This caused the trouble. The circuit didn't see this as ground. The solution was running a separate wire directly to the c...

Hi Brent, I got the MJLJ out for a while this morning and tested it. Everything works 100% on the bench so it must be a wiring problem in the car. After re-installing the unit in the car I tested the option switch and it still doesn't work. So as I said above it has to be the wiring in the car. The ...

option switch problem

Thanks Brent, I didn't get notified of your latest response automatically so I'm a little late getting back to you on this. The test you suggest will definitely be a pull the unit out job as the molex plug is on the far, and difficult to access, side of the MJLJ. I'll get back to you on it as soon a...
