Hi!

Last night I finished building the board, plannning to instal it in my '71 BMW 2002.

I've got some trouble tuning it though, as I own a Mac, and unfortunately they haven't gotten around yet to putting javax.comm in OS X. There exists RXTX, a third party javax.comm, but I haven't got that working yet. I've also tried to run the mjljTune app in Virtual PC, and that seems to work except that something goes wrong with the serial communications when Updating the config.

Has anyone had more success with Mac OS X?

I've used an OS X serial terminal program to verify the operation of the board, and all functions do perform as expected...

The protocol for talking to the board is very simple, so I might spend some time making an OS X configuration app. Is there any interest in that?

Try to use the latest 2.0.3 software- I made the comm routines a bit more robust.

Other than that, a Mac OS X version would be cool, you should be able to port over my java code fairly easily.

I've been busybusybusy the last few weeks, so I haven't had time to work on this at all

I will try the latest software, see if it works better.

What I did verify is that the comms problem I was experiencing will go away when I run native in OS X. I used a simple serial terminal program to 'talk' to the board, and it all worked fine, I could even upload and download the configs...

I'll keep you posted!

I can imagine no greater pleasure than running the MJLJ tuning software on my iBook (even if I am using virtual pc). Please keep us posted

Hi - new here, planning a system for a Flathead V8. Two things holding me back - the lack of an EDIS 8 module in the UK, and I also have OSX to try the software out on, although I do run Linux on an old Powermac upstairs, I'm not yet that proficient at installing stuff on it...

This is all academic as I have nothing built yet to communicate with, but just wanted to get the software running.
Well - downloaded the Solaris package from java.com, RXTX, and version 2.03.
The software opened in a fresh tab/window in Safari, so pick save as - don't append an extension! I ended up with a zip file the first time, and tried to make life too complicated for myself(!)
Unzip the Solaris java package take out the comm.jar file. Stick it in the folder with the mjljTune-2.0.3 file and throw the rest away (or just leave it around on the desktop like I seem to!). From the rxtx download there's a RXTX_Jag.pkg which ran succesfully on Panther ( the RXTX.pkg wouldn't finish an install).
Anyway v. 2.0.3 opens up just fine as a Java program on OSX, no tweaking needed. Cheers Brent!
Busy trawling the net now for some kind of advance curve starting point for the flathead. I just need to sort out a USB/serial adaptor now for when my board arrives...

Well although the ignition software works fine I'm having problems communicating with the USB/Serial adaptor. The USB adaptor has this address /dev/tty.USA28X1913P1.1 (or /dev/cu.USA28X1913P1.1 ?) and I've symlink'd from /dev/ttyS1 as that's what I can pick from the Megajolt software.
Anyone decipher this from the Console?

Error loading SolarisSerial: java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: no SolarisSerialParallel in java.library.path
Caught java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: readRegistrySerial while loading driver com.sun.comm.SolarisDriver

Nope - it's alright, I can see the problem. Folloing my own installation notes, I used the Solaris comm.jar file. That's my problem. Need to find an OSX comm.jar!

Hi Alex - don't know if you're still out there, but I have now successfully used OSX to upload the configuration.
Because I was using a USB serial adaptor, the serial name didn't match what was in the pull down menu in the Megajolt software.
Luckily, I have a friend who programs for Adobe, who looked through the source code, found the text that fills in that pull down (COM1, COM2, etc.) and added the name of my adaptor from a look in /dev in Terminal on the Mac. Note that if you move a USB adaptor it creates another port. No probs - populate the pull down with all the possibilities.
He then recompiled it for me, and - it works. Says he'll write up the notes for me, so I can put it on my Powerbook, which would have been more sensible in the first place...
Now to finish installing the sensor on the flathead...

I need the software for osx as well, could you upload the files to the site? Just about to set up my turbo 998 mini board so its programmed before I install the turbo. Also, what usb adaptor did you use? Cheers

I used the Keyspan one that gives two 8pin DIN serial ports - old Mac style RS422 serial ports, hooked up to the Megajolt using a modem lead for a Swann external modem...
I'm sure there'd be a more direct root, but I used what was lying around.
