BMW 316

Post by Yvan »

I decided to post few photos of my MJLJ powered 1987 E30 BMW. It has 1.6 liter engine. Rest of the world got 1.8 liter engine in 316, but for Greece and former Yugoslavia (I am in Serbia) it's 1.6. I did LPG conversion, and tried to go LPG only, but winter temperatures proved to be to low for that. So I am back to LPG/petrol setup again.

Main reason for going MJLJ way is LPG conversion. My original ignition system was in a good condition, but I wanted to tune it for LPG. LPG needs more advance at low rpm, and less at high. I could modify my distributor, but this is much better. You can find my ignition maps in the Ignition Map Library.

I zinc coated all metal parts, and then used black heat resistant (600 Celsius) black paint.

When I went to a wrecks to look for EDIS, coil pack and sensor, I ripped it of with complete wiring loom and connectors. That made my job much easier later on.

Here are few photos:

It seems you can add max three attachments per post, so here are three more:

I will pull out my distributor and put coil pack in it's place, but for now it is located like this.

And final three (I hope this comes out right, it looks like the first attachment you add goes at the bottom of the page, so I am adding all upsidedown):

I fitted MJLJ at the place where BMW originally fitted fuel injection ECU which gave me easy access to serial port.
