Connectors

Evening all,

Not entirely MJLJ specific, but I reckon this is as good a place to ask as any.

I have just got my EDIS and coil from trigger-wheels.com (cop out I know, but I'm on a bit of a tight schedule here). All the multipins have nice little short bits of wire on, which would be pretty easy to solder and heat-shrink onto the rest of the loom. But that wouldn't be very tidy would it? A much better solution would be to have the plugs apart and replace the terminals with new ones crimped tidily onto the loom.

But how do I do that? How do I get the plugs apart for a start? where do I get replacement terminals from? Vehicle Wiring Products?

Can it be done and is it worth it?

Hello,

Soldering and head shrinking the cut wires should be perfectly reliable- so it really comes down to personal preference. If you're concerned about appearance, you could bundle the wires together and cover it with split loom- which would make a very nice and clean look.

Excellent website there Ken. You know,I did not find your website through this forum,I did an engine search,I entered 'EDIS yellow/blue' and your website came up. I've noticed alot of websites associated with EDIS don't colour code the wires,so I decided to buy a Ford Escort & Orion Haynes manual,and work off this. And whilst at work,pondering on the wiring,I overlooked the wiring from the EDIS for the 12v supply. Thinking to myself,I didn't recall seeing a solid red wire. So,your website has helped out,thanks again

VPWR=Voltage PoWeR

i.e. The 12V supply from the ignition circuit.

Note that Ford used black for the 12V supply, not red as normal.

whilst on the subject of connectors, is it possible to buy the coil connectors new? i know the VR sensors are "junior timer" or whatever other terminology they are known as, but what are the coil ones called??

I'm in the same boat, trigger wheels used to sell coil pack connectors but they've changed there website in the last few weeks and no longer list them. I was looking at VWP's website and I was wandering if the 3 pole connector will work:

Has anyone tried this?

As a temporary measure I've used 3 mini spade terminals, not the best solution I know but it's done the job for over a year now.

Just looked, they are there still, but at £12.50 i thought a bit steep. once we know what they are called, we can search for cheaper prices !
