It lives! 1972 MGB

Post by black-cat »

Got my 1972 MGB to fire today :) Wiring was a total botch job as I've not decided where to mount the coils. Everything was just sat on the wing for the test.

Didn't try with the megajolt connected although I've checked it works by fitting the crank pulley to my lathe and the megajolt showed an RPM. It still needs boxing up.

Idle was pretty good for limp home mode, didn't run it for long as the car has no radiator :)

Hopefully this will be the end of the nightmare that is the current ignition system. The only fun thing will be the rev counter, its an old Smith one which wires in series with the coil to points wire. Inside is a ferrite acting as a transformer which it uses to pickup the revs. Its not actually very good but its original and I want to keep it.

Very interesting to hear how you go, as I am contemplating the same move for my '67 MGB. Especially how you go about sorting the tacho.
Please feel free to update me via PM or to this thrad :D
