Have you tried without the megajolt plugged in ? ie. just run it on the ford parts, you should see steady 10 degrees just running it like this.
It may just be your timing light, it may be picking up the second (wasted) spark. More modern timing lights can do this.

Hows you VR sensor, had a similar problem with mine.
Turned out to be it was 2 close to the trigger wheel, now set with a gap about eighth of a inch.

Daves (boggy senior) a great guy and the 8 valve vauxhall is one of his favourite engines. Did he set it up on the RR, known him for over 20 years, he'll be well into his seventies now.
