A quick Google on "ignition timing theory" brings up these two that seem to describe it well: http://www.giant.net.au/users/wight/Ignition%20Timing%20Background.htm http://www.giant.net.au/users/wight/Ignition%20Timing.htm ...indeed your link (last row but one) describes why advance increa...

Crystal ball a bit cloudy right now, so more questions I'm afraid.... - the engine is running? - the rpm gauge is stuck on zero, but the load (Kpa) gauge works? - you can see the load gauge but the rpm gauge isn't being displayed at all? - there's no highlighting of the cells in map as the rpm chang...

Try driving the tacho from the PIP signal going from EDIS to MJLJ - this often solves exactly the problem you are seeing.

Just "T" into the existing EDIS->MJLJ wiring.....

Report back if it works!

What bike were they from?

R1 etc bike carbs should have a TPS fitted (or it might have been removed before sale I suppose).

Bike carbs, with a TPS, on a Zetec 1800 go very nicely!

I wouldn't bother with even thinking about a MAP setup - much too complex when the TPS route should be so easy

I have trapped the alternator / fan belt and will have to remove the VR to put a new one on. Oh well, live and learn. Don't think that you're the first person to do that - as well here! I'd just set it up normally - 1-2mm should be easy given that it looks highly concentric - and see h...

Very nice lateral thinking there :) ... and nice waveform - looks like you've got it running very concentrically Can't exactly remember what I measured on a normal toothed wheel - in the region of 1.5v - 20v pk-to-pk (higher rpm = higher voltage) IIRC I don't think you need an attenuator - you're no...

Hi Matt How's it going with the new motor? I think they're both correct :D - If nothing is moving, the sensor is 90 degrees before the missing tooth. - If the engine is rotating, the sensor is at the tooth that is 90 degrees after the missing tooth has gone past. I find the diagram easier to follow....

Half a tooth = 2.5 degrees sounds spot on to me.....

Hi John Welcome! All Zetecs I've ever been involved with have a Ford OEM VR sensor pointing at the back of the flywheel which has cast in webbing that works exactly like a 36-1 trigger wheel. So MJLJ Zetec installs are particularly easy - just use the OEM VR sensor, the OEM flywheel and the MJLJ. Yo...

in.Hg are traditionally used to show how much depression from atmospheric you have i.e. 0 in.HG = atmospheric, ~30 in.Hg = a complete vacuum.

The second gauge is interesting - in.Hg on the vacuum side and psi on the boost side :)
