Still can't flash data with engine running

As I've alluded to in previous posts, I had the same problem as another user regarding flashing the MJLJ with the engine running. On both channels with the engine off, it works fine, but with engine going, I can only change the runtime data on channel 2 (i.e. option switch to earth). I've just chang...

The RPM figures given in your table are for the centrifugal advance, I think. I presume they reach a max and above that won't give you any more. If you just had these and no vacuum correction, you'd end up with a 3D graph that looks like a set of steps. The vacuum will give it curves. On the .xls yo...

Don't know anything about this engine but don't know why there should be any issues - as long as it has a distributor & spark plugs you'll be fine

Have you tried different USB sockets on your laptop?

I generally leave mine plugged in and then turn the ignition on. I take it the light is coming onto the MJLJ OK? Can you double check that it actually has 12V (or thereabouts) across the power pins as I had huge problems with power supply before

Is it just not connecting when the engine is running? It seems like the MJLJ is quite sensitive to electrical interference (or it might be the laptop/USB cables etc.) but mine works fine until I start the engine. I've had problems where I have to change USB sockets on the laptop. I'm hoping when I f...

Bit late for me! Just thinking, regarding my query about advancing ignition whilst engine is running - it might be possible to wire a variable resistor into one of the auxiliary inputs - can't these then be used to alter the timing depending on output? I'd also like to be able to scale the RPM gauge...

Thanks, Brent. It's 24V which has caused a few problems. I'm currently running the ignition system off a 12V leisure battery as the voltage dropper doesn't work whilst cranking as the starter takes too much power. I'm going to install a small auxiliary battery (the kind you use for fire alarms etc.)...

How I joined shielded cable/wire (picture heavy tutorial)

I didn't want to use crimp connectors as they end up quite bulky and it would have been difficult to get the shield around it. Started off by soldering the cables together: http://i277.photobucket.com/albums/kk76/richardspandit/Pinzgauer/MegaJolt/2b3e35a3.jpg I then insulated them with a few coats o...

They are awesome off road. Massive ground clearance due to portal axles, lockable diffs (on the fly) & huge departure axles. They are dreadful on the road, though - slow, cumbersome and with drum brakes that don't work in the wet! Engines are air-cooled so they never sound whisper quiet but mine...

It would also be useful to be able to save both ignition configurations in the same file and allowing the user to flash them at will without needing the hardware switch, or is this impossible with the current design?

Feature requests

1) Would be nice to have a keystroke to increment the current advance up or down to make it easier to fine tune on the go 2) I'd find it easier when looking at logs if it was obvious when I'd changed ignition configuration - could it enter a new column or put something besides 1 or 0 in the Mark_Int...

Just logged a couple of minutes at idle with the laptop as far away from the engine as possible - made no difference to the stability of the readings and still couldn't flash the MJLJ with engine running. However, switching to the alternate map let me update/flash at will with the engine going - exa...
