Holden Gemini Van - with Nixie Tacho
The other retro display is the 7 segment incandecent. They can have a tint similar to nixies, but run on 5V. Have used a few here. Bruce Roe

My first question would be, do you have the plugs connected to the right coils & drivers? With a waste fire don't pull a plug wire. Try shorting each plug, and see if some have much less effect. You could also use the timing light on each plug, and see if the mark moves around to the correspondi...

Holden Gemini Van - with Nixie Tacho
The Nixie tube tach is cool. I built one in 1969 when Fairchild came out with a decade counter/latch/decoder chip set. The problem is high voltage for the tubes. I generated an audio frequency 180 volt pulse, which the eye sees as continuous. A pulse width modulation ckt gave me variable brightness,...

Tuning Aid
Just started trying to map out my 20 hp odd fire twin. I have a small filter chamber to help smooth out manifold vacuum ripples, but I think a larger one may be better. First approach here is to optimize no load advance, looking for maximum vacuum /rpm at a given throttle setting. I will probably ne...

Anyone mapped a temp sensor?
There is a very common & cheap 2 wire temp sensor used for EFI in all kinds of liquid cooled engines. It came with my EDIS parts. I'm attaching the resistance chart (degrees C). If you use it in MJLJ setup, it will be powered by 5V through 2.2K ohms. I have a file from my unit which translates A...

Coil pack favour
I was working on wiring my engine, and noted the coil pack connector has 3 pins. Power to the middle pin, and one pin on each side to each coil primary. Didn't see in the literature, which pin drives which coil. Did a little lab test, and sho 'nouf, the left pin drives the left coil; the right pin d...

Wiring
Fuses have some voltage drop, esp as they get older. And they add some unreliability to a critical circuit. I prefer to use fuseable links in engine stuff, like the OEM does. A pretty light link would handle this load. Bruce Roe

MJLJ-V4 Temp Gauge
I am still stumbling along, trying to figure out the ENGINE TEMP feature. First thing is, apparently it needs to be CREATED under the TOOLS section, not just called in the VIEW section. There are ACD VALUE and VOLTAGE columns; I think ACD is the digital value for the AUX input voltage under VOLTAGE....

OK then, just the coil packs mount on the engine. I will need to find new plug ends for coil wires, no clearance for those long ones. thanks, Bruce Roe
