Sorry to hear your having problems, hopefully you can get it sorted soon enough. Could also be the VR sensor?? To check the coil pack, although not a definitive test, is to continuity test the LT side (normally figure of around 1 Ohm or less) and the HT side (again aroung 1 Ohm). Basically you looki...

Ok, hook the unit up to a power supply (I find a 9V battery best for bench testing), then test the voltages around the circuit board according to http://www.autosportlabs.net/MJLJ_V4_kit_assembly_guide#Testing_Voltages Whilst testing voltages, can you test the voltage on pin 4 of U1 as well and repo...

Can you get to a desktop pc with a dedicated serial port to confirm your megajolt can operate? You can power the unit using a 9V battery so you don't have to drag your desktop pc to your car. It maybe a serial adaptor issue at the moment as they can be awkward at the best of times. I managed to get ...

First of all take all the spark plugs out of the engine, rest them on the engine block, then turn the engine over and look for sparks. If there are sparks then the problem isn't ignition. If there are no sparks then obviously the problem lies here. Then take the connectors off the edis and coil pack...

Thrasher, If your still hitting a brick wall then I can take a look at your unit for you to perform some fault finding. Don't despair the benefits well be great once it is up and running properly. I too have a couple of MK1 Golf GTI's, which I haven't touched for a couple of months, to be restored w...

You maybe able to test the the signals between the EDIS and the coil pack by removing the coil pack and putting LED's (with protection resistors) in place. Then turn the engine over and confirm they flash off (it maybe just a flicker). I have not tried this method and I'm not completely sure how suc...

Again this sounds like to me that the wiring to the coil pack is incorrect. If you have the 12v power lead to the coil pack is attached to the incorrect pin then as (for instance) coil A output of the EDIS fires you get a good spark from oneside of the coil pack, but then Coil B output fires you hav...

The choice is completely yours, depending on how much space you have to fit on the dash. You don't even need several LED's. You could vary the brightness of the LED's as you get closer to the shift point. The standard size I tend to use are 5/6mm LED's as they are a good managable and popular size a...
