Unlikely to be ignition as only the front carb is involved. So, let's try to clarify what you have and what you have tried. Carbs mounted with soft mount kits including the correct multi turn spring washers with Nyloc type nuts? Any vacuum sources being taken off the manifold and if so does it affec...

Run the pin4 earth back to the vicinity of the MJLJ and connect that earth wire together with the MJLJ earth wire to a solid ground point. Same with power for EDIS and MJLJ - source them from a common point. Use at least 16G multi strand wire, heavier is better. Remember that the earth from EDIS is ...

I would fabricate a new bracket so that if you ever do have to rely on it (heaven forbid!!) then the 'limp home' mode will function.
For that EDIS has to see the VRS signal (or more specifically the missing tooth) at the correct timing point referenced to the crankshaft.

Dunno about skipping the RS232C altogether - I'd prefer to see the option of either/or installation. USB doesn't like electrically noisy environments, particularly anything that puts out much RF energy. Sometimes the older slow ways are actually better! Maybe I'll have to search out a daughter board...

David (and anyone else interested)
If USB is giving enough problems have a look at this one
http://www.dontronics-shop.com/product. ... ctid=16497
More out of interest than any real need I patched one of them onto a MJLJ in parallel with the RS232 interface and had USB working in minutes.

Umm, hindsight really is better!! I reconfigured my V3 board (again!) to pick up the PIP source signal from the X2 p2 / U2 p8 track, works just as well and is much easier to patch the existing board. The track is adjacent to D7 and immediately above U1 and IC1. A small diameter sleeve is needed on e...

Excellent, that VR sensor bracket is a really good guide for other people on what they should be using.
In the pic of the VR bracket as installed, what are the black sections between the washers (block side of the bracket)?
Surely not rubber vibration dampers!!

Another one to add to the new version board.

Connect R5 to PIP - I used pin 9 of the MAX232 and disconnected R5 from U1 pin 13 / R1.

This eliminates most of the problems with the TACH-OUT signal and the existing R5 / T2 / R2 arrangement avoids loading PIP.

Only go for 'in the distributor' if there is absolutely NO way to get the 36-1 onto the crankshaft. If you are really stuck on the nose of the motor, consider a drilled or milled flywheel to simulate the arrangement Ford used on some 4 cylinder motors. I have tried a 'drilled' flywheel where we put ...

Go to http://www.autosportlabs.net/V3.2.x_/_2.8.x_Installing_the_new_firmware_image and follow all the instructions (including the second sentence). If you don't get a command screen (like a DOS screen) then substitute 'CMD.EXE' for the 'cmd' in the above instructions. The response you have received...

Quoting from the text on wikipedia (and it is almost identical to the solutions offered in my old study books): "The first solution is to ensure that all metal chassis are interconnected, then to the electrical distribution system at one point. The next is to have shielded cables for the low cu...

Definitely not! Earthing both ends creates a ground loop which WILL give you grief. Earth at the EDIS end to the SAME point the EDIS module and MJLJ are earthed to. Make it nice and solid, clean metal and all, then apply a SMALL amount of grease to all surfaces before bolting down tight. There is si...

There is no foolproof way of determining whether a shielded cable is absolutely required. Very dependent on where the cable is in relation to other (radiating) cables & components, so it's a case of try it then fix it if there are suspected issues. Even the big OEM's have to do it that way. The ...

Your second attempt would have worked with a '.' before s19 ! Try again, making sure you are using the file name EXACTLY as shown in the folder. Carefully review the command you have typed in before hitting <enter>, looking for any extra characters (like the '.' after 'exe' in the first attempt) abd...

Some known options: 1. Do both machines have a USB port? If so, use a USB flash drive to transport the files. 2. If the PC has a CD burner and the laptop at least a CDROM, put the file(s) on a CD to transport them. 3. Install Winzip on both machines. Zip the file(s) with the target on the floppy dis...
